Here lay the Berlin Wall 1961-1989

The Berlin visit that we run for every GCSE class is very exhausting, yet has been described by many of the students as the best school trip the Highfield does. we visit the city for about two and a half days, in which time we visit sites from the Second World War including the Soviet War Memorials, an Allied Cemetery, but also we briefly stop at the 1936 Olympic Stadium. The main purpose for the visit though is to encounter the Cold War sites, mostly focused around the Berlin Wall, these include the wall itself, Checkpoint Charlie, some GDR watch towers, escape tunnels below ground. We also visit some museums about life in the GDR including the interactive GDR Museum, the Stasi Prison. Other highlights include the evening visits to the top of the Reichstag and the East Berlin TV Tower. We would like to share with you some of our memories of what we have seen in the hope that you might be able to use some of this. Do go to the discussion tab to give your best memories and funny stories of the visit.
